Autumn Melbourne family shoot ( Wardrobe inspirtation )

The most common question I get regarding a Melbourne family photography session with Jacinta Dal Ben Photography is ” What do we wear ” It is hard to graspe the concept sometimes without viewing some concepts so I thought I would head out today and snap some inspiration for you all on what colour tones/patterns work well together through our current season, along with an image of ” What not to do ”

Now a heads up that these where quickly snapped before the sales assistant could think ” What is that crazy lady doing laying clothes on the floor and taking images for ” LOL But it was all for you guys and I hope it helps you all when shopping for your family.

Colours to aim for: Rust, deep purples, navy, aqua blue, tan, mustard, teal, chocolate, cream, burgundy, red

What to avoid: Prints of cartoon characters, words on tops, having one in spots and the other in stripes etc, all black

What to aim for: Mixing at least two tones in an outfit, have your shoes a different colour to your base, eg: If you are wearing navy jeans, don’t wear the same colour shoes aim for a tan/red, remember accessories ( Hats, scarves, long socks, jewelry ) But don’t have all children in a hat, think one having a hat, one may have a scarf, one may have long socks on, one may have a furry vest etc etc.

GIRLS IDEAS AGED 1-8: COTTON ON KIDS

Price range: Average $29.95

What I would add to the first and second pick is a touch of Navy, try looking for a hat or long socks to go over leggings, a scarf etc

BOYS IDEAS AGED 1-8: COTTON ON KIDS

Price range: $24.94-$49.95 ( See how the shoes are an opposite colour to the pants, and the beanie for a pop of colour? One has a jacket,  one has a hat, and the other a vest..

GIRLS IDEAS: AGED 12 AND UP BIG W

Price range: Average $20 One for the girly girl and one for the girl who hates dresses.

Those boots in the first picture are $12!! Yes $12!! The dress was $20, Jacket $25 leggings $4.25, that is a whole outfit for $62!

BOYS INSPIRATION 0-2 YEARS: TARGET

Price range: $16 How adorable are these!! All that you could add is a beanie, and some cute little boots, aim for choc brown, or blue in the first option, in the second option aim for a mustard or burgundy and your set!

BOYS OPTIONS AGED 3-8: TARGET

Price range: $15

That jacket I fell in love with!! $25!! And it was all soft and cozy inside!, shirts were $15 and pants $12-$15, crazy prices! Aim for tan boots with these options.

BABY GIRL OPTIONS 000-2: BIG W

Price rang: $20

Oh my I wish these dresses went up to at least an 8! That full lace dress is just devine! Pair it with a light grey or mustard stocking, navy or teal boots, then see if you can find a vest to tie it all together, in the second outfit, similar options add another colour for stockings or leggings, teal would work well, or you could keep it simple with cream and a navy boot.

BABY BOY OPTIONS: BIG W

Price average: $15

All that is missing here is another colour which I would make ( Tan or chocolate ) make that in the shoes!

BABY BOY OPTIONS 000-2: BEST AND LESS:

Price average: $20

Ok these guys have the most adorable outfits for girls and boys aged 000-2! I forgot to snap the girls, but they have three piece sets with a vest and all! DEVINE!! The only thing they lack is not continuing this look past the age of 2.

GIRLS AGED 7-16: BARDOT

Price average: $70

We all know how amazing Bardot is, and if you can afford to go all the way out on a full outfit, then go for it as their current season is stunning! Keep in mind you will need approx $200 per child but no doubt it will be mind blowing, the first dress here I would try and find an olive pair or tights with tan boots, you could even save on boots here by heading into big w or kmart as they have some gorgeous styles! A metalic boot would also look bang on! Think vests, wide brim hats with these two styles.

What not to do!

A big big no no and this goes for any session whether that is a newborn or family session, is (No Thomas, no Dora, no images on tops, no big brand names like PUMA) Steer clear from one child being in multi coloured polka dots and the other being in stripes, stick to the same pattern but in different coloured tones rather than different shapes, it will send you cross eyed otherwise.

Well I hope all that was helpful, if it was leave me some feedback in the comments, and feel free to share this link to share with your own family and friends, or if a photographer you may want to share this with your clients to give them a guide.
